14 Apr 2009:

Karachi Apr 14: City District Government Karachi has completed over 40 percent of development work on Banaras Chowk Flyover and the project is expected to be opened for traffic within next 4 months.

Nazim Karachi Syed Mustafa Kamal had directed EDO Works and Services to speed up work on this flyover so that the bridge could be completed on time.
Earlier the project of Banaras Chowk Flyover was delayed due to some amendments in its design and now the city government is completing this project according to the needs and convenience of the local population and business community.

The flyover at Banaras Chowk will have a total length of 1.5km from Metro Cinema to Peerabad Police Station while it will have 24 meter width with 8.2 meter space in the middle for proposed Bus Rapid System. City Government will construct the road beneath the bridge.

This may be noted that Banaras Chowk is one of the important and busiest junctions of the city where frequent traffic jam had been creating problems for citizens. This intersection was also considered main linking point for Orangi Town and Baldia with other parts of the city.

City District Government Karachi is constructing this flyover with a cost of Rs.1150million and already 40 percent of development work is complete.

Besides this project City Government Karachi had also initiated several important development projects for Orangi and Baldia Town including lying of especial water supply lines with a cost of Rs.920million while two pumping stations had been constructed in orange to pump water on hilly areas.
